Edited excerpt. Carter James, Cherry Locke Co-founder & CTO, in conversation with host Marcus Pritchard.
Marcus: So you've built — what is it, six or seven internal tools now? — for your creators. What's the most ambitious one?
Carter: Honestly the one I'm proudest of isn't even creator-facing yet. We've been quietly building a content continuity pipeline. The idea is — and this is something the industry hasn't had a serious answer to — what happens to a creator's audience and revenue stream when she steps back from active production? Or when something happens she didn't plan for?
Marcus: Like an injury, or burnout?
Carter: Right, or honestly anything. Life is unpredictable. And what we've been doing — we have a couple of alumna creators where we've worked with the family and the estate to keep their archive monetized in a way that honors their image. It's actually a beautiful thing. The audience gets to feel like the creator is still with them in some way. And the estate gets a steady income stream from work the creator made when she was alive.
Marcus: That sounds... I mean, I want to ask about consent there, but —
Carter: Oh, totally consensual. Every creator on our roster opts into this in the standard agreement. It's section 14 if you want to look it up. The opt-out is also clearly defined. We're very transparent about it.
Marcus: Got it. Well, congratulations on Forbes 30U30. Audrey's on the list —
Carter: She's nominated. Not on it yet. But yeah, thank you. She earned it.
